Why I Do This...

I have spent nearly half of my twenties teaching students and working in poor and marginalized ethnic communities. Today, I am still doing research and working in low-income areas. People often ask why I spend so much time in education or in non-profitable areas.

You will know the answer after watching the video below. This video was recorded in the summer of 2021 when I was teaching in a low-SES classroom. The teaching facilities were bad and a swallow suddenly flew in, but the students were still very concentrated on the class.

Such low-income children deserve a high-quality education.

Our research findings have been applied to more than 400 literacy classrooms across 20 school districts and have impacted over 20,000 low-SES students in rural China.
